Reader Kelly asked Decorating Den:
“I have no knack for decorating. I have a charcoal colored couch and berry colored chairs. My curtains are ivory with a grey pattern. My floors are wood. My wall are white now but I want to paint. I was thinking a pale grey, but is that too much grey? A pale purple? Blue? I have no idea. Any advice on paint color would be great.”
Northern Virginia Decorating Den’s own Amelia Vallone Logan had some advice for Kelly:
You are describing a room with a neutral color scheme ranging from charcoal, to grey, to ivory with an accent in berry. I would not add tones of blue to this room. I would recommend painting the walls with the same grey as the pattern of the fabric of the window treatment. This would enhance the ivory of the draperies. An ivory throw in a soft yarn, like mohair, will add a warm and light touch. A few pillows in berry and ivory on your charcoal sofa and a lamp with a berry base would create a harmonious and balanced décor. You’ll love it!
