Talking About Texture

Texture is the secret weapon every good designer keeps in their back pocket.  When a room isn’t working – lifeless, too formal or stiff – it is often because it lacks the layered effect that well-thought-out texture can give.

Coarse and fine, polished and rough all have a place in nature and that seems to translate to design.  In the first picture you see a velvety corduroy combined with natural grass window shades.  We have added a wool rug with a deep pile to warm up those cold granite counters.  The metal finishes of the lamps and coffee table are additional elements to flesh out the space.

The second photo puts the texture on the floor with a sisal carpet.  The linen and velvet upholstery adds another layer and then we mix it up a leather ottoman.  The oak of the furniture play against it all beautifully.  Throw in that great art and some pillows and you are good to go.

For a well thought out space…don’t forget the texture!
