Room of the Month: April

The new owner of this 2-story condo in Old Town, Alexandria wanted a comfortable haven to call home, and that is exactly what she received. She had just moved from a large home in the suburbs into this small condo downtown, and she decided to start fresh, replacing most of her furnishings and even changing her look from Queen Anne to a more updated, contemporary feel. Her willingness to step outside her comfort zone and trust her decorators’ advice made her a joy to work with and made the end result that much better.
In the living room, where the entry also happens to be, we gave her a handsome painted chest, which sets the tone for the room and also gives her a place to set her keys when she walks in. The curves of the design on the chest are echoed in the rug and the gilded mirror, a piece we repurposed from her last home. The lush sofa and chairs are upholstered in a rich chocolate-colored velvet corduroy, giving them an inviting feel. To add texture to her space and filter the sunlight, we suggested natural woven wood shades.
Her combination office and guest room in the loft continues the tones established downstairs, but with a more relaxed feel.
