Expanding on last week’s pick of the week, this week’s blog post focuses on a town house in Alexandria. Our client had a modest budget and a small space, but gorgeous black shutters and a willing attitude.
The speckled black and white granite counter-top in the kitchen adjacent to this living/dining area was the driver for the space. We played off of the counter-top by upholstering the sofa in a black and white tweed, and further carried the white around the space by using it on the large ottoman and leather dining chairs. We brightened up the space with a vibrant, colorful piece of art and carried those brighter colors throughout the space by placing a bright orange geometric rug on the dark wood floors and colorful throw pillows on the sofa.
When decorating your space, be sure to take into account the more permanent elements that aren’t likely to change, like a counter-top. Also important for a cohesive look is to carry your colors throughout the space.
