Eclectic or transitional?

Pick of the Week: Eclectic or transitional?

Fireplaces are great focal points for any room, whether it is a family room, a living room, your bedroom or your basement. Nowadays you can have the charm of a fire place without construction. Electric fireplaces come in a range of different styles from traditional to contemporary, or even transitional, and can be easily installed.

One of my clients, who loves aqua, asked me to help her to achieve “a relaxing corner to read with a bluish palette, dark wood fireplace and simple lines but with a touch from the old world.” This is what I came up with for her.

A fireplace in a walnut finish with simple lines that contrasts with the soothing Soft Chinchilla Benjamin Moore 2135-50 of the walls. A four piece art work with an antique silver relief damask pattern in a bluish to slightly purple background on the wall above the fireplace brings a nice contrast to the dark wood. A hand knotted cut pile 100 % New Zealand wool area rug in a light tan adds softness and warmth to the room. The final touch from the Old World is given by the Tuscan style candle sticks on the mantel.
