For Decorating Den’s first installment of “Ask the Decorator,” we address an issue submitted by reader Penelope, “How To Become an Interior Decorator.”
Question: My friends have been telling me for years that I should look into becoming an interior decorator. Decorating my house (and said friends houses, when asked) has always been an enjoyable hobby of mine, and I guess you could say I have a knack for it, but I’ve always looked at it as simply that – just a hobby – and not something I’d do full-time. However, I recently lost my job and am looking to take my life/career in a different direction. I’d love to consider a career as an interior decorator, but I don’t know the first thing about getting started. Can you offer any suggestions or guidance?
