Decorating Den reader Suzan James asked:

We have done an entire house remodel and are down to buying doorknobs for the doors. We have a knotty alder front door with an oil rubbed bronze handle. We plan to use the same type of handle for other exterior doors, but do interior doors need to be oil rubbed bronze? Or could we use brushed nickel finish?

Jane Sam of Decorating Den of Oakton, VA lends some advice to Suzan:

Hi Suzan,

Your exterior oil rubbed bronze handles sound gorgeous. You are doing the right thing by choosing the same for all your exterior handles. I would advise not putting brushed nickel as your inside finish. It is a completely different look and even though it would be inside, it is still part of the door and you want uniformity. I would suggest to put interior handles with another muted finish in a lighter complementary bronze shade or to keep the same shade with a lighter style than the exterior look.“>
